Bobby Shantz reached the peak of his professional baseball career in 1952, going 24 - 7 for a fifth place team to win the MVP award by a landslide. He led the American League in wins, winning percentage, fewest walks per game (2.03) and finished third with a 2.48 ERA and had 152 strikeouts, five shutouts, 27 complete games with 255 innings pitched and fifth fewest hits per game (7.39). In 1957 Shantz played for the New York Yankees and had an 11and 5 record and lead the American League with a 2.45 ERA.
