His first season in major league baseball was with the Yankees in 1954 and he batted 340 that year. He had a lifetime batting average of .282 with 211 home runs, 243 doubles, 53 triples, 681 runs scored and 888 RBI’s in his major league career. He batted over 300 five times in 1954,1955, 1956, 1957 and 1960 and hit over 20 home runs 4 times in 1956, 1960, 1961 and 1962. He was a member of five World Series championship teams, the New York Yankees in 1956, 1958, 1961, 1962 and 1963. He appeared in 6 all-star games in 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961 and 1965.
