Bobby Murcer played 17 seasons in the major leagues for the New York Yankees, San Francisco Giants and the Chicago Cubs. He had a lifetime batting average of .277 with 252 home runs, 285 doubles, 45 triples, 972 runs scored and 1043 RBI’s in his major league career. Bobby Murcer was signed by Tom Greenwade, who is the same baseball scout who signed Mickey Mantle. He came up as a shortstop out of an Oklahoma high school and was expected to be the next Yankee super-star. He led the American league in runs scored in 1972, led the American League in on base percentage in 1971 with 266 times on base, let the American League in sacrifice flies in 1975 and 1977, was second in slugging percentage in 1971 and third in 1972 and won a gold glove for his outfield play in 1972. He appeared in 5 all-star games from 1971 to 1975. His best batting average was in 1971 when he batted 331. He hit over 20 home runs 5 seasons and had a career high of 33 in 1972.
