Sparky Lyle played 16 seasons in the major leagues for the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Texas Rangers, Philadelphia Phillies and Chicago White Sox. He had a career record of 99 wins, 76 losses and 238 saves. His lifetime earned run average was 2.88 and he had 873 strikeouts and 481 bases on balls in his career. He was a member of the 1977 and 1978 New York Yankees championship teams. He was a 3-time A.L. all-star in 1973, 1976 and 1977. He won the A.L. Cy Young Award in 1977 and led the league in saves in 1972 (35) and 1976 (23).
